Dr Rowan Williams, Archibishop of Canterbury, delivered a talk in which he dealt with the role of religion in modern society. Faith issues (such as having Halaal or Kosher butchers, or even Christian doctors not performing abortions) already have specific caveats in civil law. His analysis of the future role of sharia (Islamic) law in contemporary British civil produced an overwhelmingly negative reaction from the UK press – something which can only be put down to a combination of paranoid and uneducated (Dr Williams does use academic/philosophical/theological language) editors. Happy valentines day

In the same week as the Californian fires there were bad floods in Mexico. This cartoon was not published.

I drew this in 2007 but after Lent had finished. I had to wait a whole year before having it published. Aaargh. First published in the BT, 07/14/08
